As COVID-19 dragged on into 2021, so did food insecurity for many villagers in the Guatemala Highlands. After consulting with staff in Guatemala, Esperanza held a third food relief effort this Spring. This time, more than 150 families were served in the village of Nimasac. Many were widows or elderly, and many had not received aid before. Their gratitude was immense and heartfelt. It is almost palpable as you watch the video.
It took staff member Martin 3 trips up the mountain prior to delivery day. He left about 4:30 am so he could make the delivery and return home to his regular business day. Each time he was met by Francisco and his father Manuel or his brother Juan at dawn so they could unload the bags. Every bag contained pounds and pounds of food, so a lot of heavy lifting occurred!
Thank you Martin, Mario, Francisco, Juan, Manuel and Estefani for your hard work to make this happen.
