Education & Literacy

Esperanza de Guatemala is working to create life-giving opportunities in education and literacy through: Scholarships, Local School Support and Computers & Technology
Scholarships

IMPACT NOTE:

What a difference a scholarship through Esperanza de Guatemala can make.

Just five years ago, Sandra thought her educational opportunities were over.

But because of the scholarship support she received, Sandra has graduated with a high school degree in accounting and is now employed  in Nimasac, giving back to the community she calls home.

You can be a sponsor!

For more info about how to be a sponsor, please contact us.  To donate now, consider a scholarship gift.  (See information above).

Thank you!

IMPACT NOTE:

Here is Diego enrolling as a 7th grader.

He is now in his second year of university, studying to be a physician.

Local Schools Support

School Supplies

Esperanza has provided requested resources for the local schools which are very under-resourced. We've contributed consumables, such as copy paper and classroom supplies, as well as permanent resources, such as classroom whiteboards and books.

During 2022, Nimasac opened its first middle school with two classes and will continue to expand. In 2023, we provided several permanent teaching tools and a laptop for the teachers.

In 2023, we were also introduced to another elementary school on the outskirts of the town and were able to provide them with a few supplies, including a laptop for the principal.

With your support, we continue to provide these resources to all four of these schools.

Computers & Technology

Presenting the first laptop computer to the new middle school staff.

A small computer center was created to support the scholarship students as well as offer computer and internet access to the community. The area's first high speed digital internet was installed. It currently has two work stations and a printer.

Esperanza de Guatemala has supplied a total of four computer work stations to the two largest elementary schools in Nimasac, and two laptops to the new* middle school and the smaller elementary school on the outskirts of the village.

We continue to develop a response to the technology needs of the four schools, beginning with the middle school.

* IMPACT  NOTE:

During 2022, Nimasac opened its first middle school with a class for 7th graders. A 8th grade was added in 2023, and  a 9th grade class in 2024.  Additionally, one of the classrooms was divided into two spaces to accommodate higher enrollment in 7th grade.

The middle school principal credits Esperanza de Guatemala's work in the community as the driving force for finally opening a middle school in Nimasac, a town of approximately 12,500 residents.
