ESPERANZA de GUATEMALA

in partnership with Cary Presbyterian Church Guatemala Missions

Thank you for your interest in making a trip to Guatemala with us.

2024:   Fourteen people  went to Guatemala with Esperanza de Guatemala & partner Cary Presbyterian Church June 19-26.

2025: We hope to go in the summer, between mid-June and early August. Stay tuned for dates, or you may contact us now.

There is no better way to see the impact of this work than by seeing it first-hand. Whether or not you speak Spanish (or Ki’che!), are young* or old, are world travelers or mostly homebodies, you’ll be a part of building relationships and hope. These trips allow you to create life-giving opportunities in Guatemala.

This kind of trip is unique; it is neither a mission trip nor a tourist trip, but a hybrid of these because of the emphasis on building relationships. We are invited into the community and together we problem solve to work on making life better in the poorest country in Central America. Most travelers report that the trip is life-changing for them, and several have made multiple trips.

Trips are eight days, mid-week to mid-week, Wednesday through Wednesday. This includes two travel days; the arrival trip has flights followed by a 4-5 hour van ride. The return trip goes from our base in Quetzaltenango to the lovely colonial town of Antigua, staying overnight there because it is only an hour from the airport. It also gives us a chance to do some shopping and enjoy a day of sightseeing.

Accommodation is in a modest but pleasant hotel in Quetzaltenango, the second largest city in Guatemala. There are restaurant breakfasts and dinners in the city with lunch in the village, hosted by local families.

We go up the mountain daily to the village of Nimasac, the site of our work. There are a LOT of meetings about every aspect of the work currently in progress. Sometimes we have meetings in Quetzaltenango with other partners, including NGOs (non-governmental organizations working in Guatemala), or staff. Trip participants are encouraged to interact with the people in the schools, church, and village. Some travelers enjoy working with the children.

We always have 1-2 translators traveling with us, as well as a Trip Manager and a van driver.

Please contact us via the contact form if you want to be updated. We'd love to have you join us! Trip costs are approximately $1,850 (depending upon current airfare), double occupancy, all inclusive, for eight days. This includes airfare, transportation, meals and hotels.
